Frequently Asked Questions

Which days and hours do you practice?
Currently Tuesdays to Thursdays, 9am to 5pm.

Do you do on-line sessions?
Yes.
Where do you practice from?
In SW central Norwich, NR2, ten minutes walk from the city centre.

Also on-line to anywhere.

Is everything I say confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is an essential component of the therapeutic process, and anything you say within Zero Balancing sessions is also confidential.

Can I have Zero Balancing and Counselling in one session?
Yes you can.  We would normally do the counselling in the first half and the ZB in the second half of the session.  You would need to book an hour and a half session to do this.

Do you do concessions?
There are a limited number of concessionary places available to people on a low income, eg FT students, unemployed, low waged, those in financial difficulty.  Please ask.
How long does each session last?
Individual sessions last 60 minutes.
Sessions for couples last 75 minutes.

Joint Counselling/Zero Balancing sessions last 90 minutes.

How often do I need to come?
This depends on what your needs are and we discuss this in the first session.  Most people find it works best to come once a week, at least to begin with, although there may be times when this might vary.  Sometimes twice a week or once a fortnight is more appropriate for a certain time period.

How many sessions will I need?
Again, this depends on what you are bringing.  Usually it helps to commit to six sessions to begin with, and then review it from there.  Counselling and psychotherapy can be either short or long term.  It is important to have at least one session where we both know that therapy is coming to an end, so that we have some kind of closure.

How much does a session cost?

Fees are on a sliding scale, depending on your income:
Individual therapy (60 mins) £60-80.

Couples therapy (75 mins) £80-100.

Joint Counselling/Zero Balancing (90 mins) £80-110.

What is your cancellation policy?
In order to be able to offer your appointment to someone else, sufficient notice is required.  Therefore if less than 48 hours notice is given, and there is nobody to take your appointment, the following fees will be payable:

£50 for cancelling a 60 minute appointment at short notice (under 48 hours)

£70 for cancelling a 75 or 90 minute appointment at short notice (under 48 hours)

What are your qualifications?
My main formal qualification is a post-graduate diploma in Person Centred Counselling, although I have trained extensively in other areas, including Couples Counselling, Personality Typology (Enneagram), Mindfulness, Somatic Meditation, Relationships and Sexuality (Tantra), Psychodynamic Theory, and Trans-personal Psychology.  I love to learn, especially experientially, and am always exploring new areas of human experience. I am a Credentialled Counsellor for Mind in Norwich and Central Norfolk.

Self Development Groups
Please Note: these groups are currently not running.

How many people are there in each group?
This varies, but there are usually between four and eight people in each group.

What kind of people come to the groups?
Usually groups comprise of both men and women from a variety of different backgrounds.  There is usually also a mix of ages.  What everyone has in common is a wish to understand themselves better, and to learn to be more fully themselves, particularly in relation to others.  Some come with particular issues they want to resolve, others come to explore and see what comes up in the moment.

What can I expect to happen in a group?
We will sit on cushions in a circle on the floor and see what unfolds between the members of the group.  My role is to facilitate.  However, there are no demands or expectations of you in these groups.  You are allowed to be simply as you are, and to participate as much or as little as you want to.  When you are in touch with something that normally you might not give voice to, you are encouraged to give expression to it in your own time and in your own way, but you will not be under any pressure to do so. The emphasis will be on becoming aware of what is happening in each of us in the moment, and what we can learn from that.  You can expect much more honest, open and direct communication to happen between the members of the group than would normally occur within a social setting.  This heightened ‘realness’ happens within a safe and respectful atmosphere, and helps bring about more self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-confidence to be more fully ourselves.

When do the groups take place?
They usually take place over two weekday evenings and one full day, usually a Saturday. The evening sessions last two and a half hours.  However there are sometimes other formats.  Please ask when the next group is being held.

How much does it cost?
This depends on the format of the group being run. Please inquire.
